Connecting People to Opportunities, Strengthening our Communities

Our Mission

Partnership for a Better San Diego is the 501 (c)(3) affiliate organization of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council. The Partnership is dedicated to combating food insecurity and promoting economic stability in San Diego and Imperial Counties by empowering underserved populations. We strengthen the local hospitality sector and advance the labor movement through workforce development programs that create access to quality union jobs.

Our History

Founded in 2012 to support union workers during times of economic hardship, Partnership for a Better San Diego has grown into a vital resource for the broader community. In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Partnership expanded its mission to address the urgent needs of families across San Diego and Imperial Counties.

In 2021 and 2022, the Partnership launched the Hiring Hall and Hospitality Training Program to empower underserved populations with workforce development opportunities. These initiatives connect job seekers to both supplemental shift work and stable, well-paying union jobs in the hospitality industry, strengthening the local economy and advancing the labor movement.
