Connecting People to Opportunities, Strengthening our Communities
Our Mission
Partnership for a Better San Diego is the 501 (c)(3) affiliate organization of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council. Partnership for a Better San Diego’s mission is to empower underserved communities by addressing food insecurity, expanding access to essential resources, educating workers about their rights, and creating pathways to quality, union jobs. We advance social and economic justice to build a stronger, more equitable San Diego.
Our History
Founded in 2012 to support union workers during times of economic hardship, Partnership for a Better San Diego has grown into a vital resource for the broader community. In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Partnership expanded its mission to address the urgent needs of families across San Diego and Imperial Counties.
In 2021 and 2022, Partnership for a Better San Diego launched the Hiring Hall and Hospitality Training Program to empower underserved populations with workforce development opportunities. These initiatives connect job seekers to both supplemental shift work and stable, well-paying union jobs in the hospitality industry, strengthening the local economy and advancing the labor movement.
In 2023, we joined the California Worker Outreach Project, expanding our efforts to educate workers about their rights, promote fair labor practices, and ensure that every worker has the knowledge and support to advocate for themselves in the workplace. Combined, these programs reflect our commitment to creating a stronger, more equitable San Diego where every worker can thrive.
